Willie Nelson Dodges Jail Time in Texas

 Willie Nelson won't be singing the blues in Texas this summer.

TMZ reported Tuesday that Nelson's lawyer, Joe Turner, reached an arrangement with prosecutors in a plea deal relating to his November 2010 marijuana bust near in Sierra Blanca, Texas, when he was said to be in possession of six ounces of marijuana.

"Willie is glad to have it all behind him," Turner told the celebrity website. Nelson had potentially faced up to two years behind bars.

Via his legal team, Nelson entered a "no contest" plea recently to a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. In exchange, Nelson will pay a $500 fine, allowing him to avoid serving any jail time in the lone star state. The "On The Road Again" singer's lawyer managed to convince prosecutors to reduce the original charge of marijuana possession in exchange for the no contest plea, per TMZ.

If Nelson stays clean for 30 days, a judge will dismiss the case entirely (the Hudspeth County Sheriff's office apparently has bigger fish to fry than Nelson: deputies in the border area recently took 1071 pounds of marijuana away from drug dealers in a large March bust).

Of course, this isn't the first time Nelson has run into trouble with the law. The well-known weed aficionado was also caught in North Carolina with drugs in early 2010.

A few years prior to that, in 2006, Louisiana police found more than marijuana, when Nelson's tour bus at the time was reportedly carrying over a pound of Nelson's on-the-record drug of choice and a small amount of mushrooms.
