Hudspeth County Judge Becky Dean-Walker said a Texas prosecutor was only joking when he suggested the 77-year-old crooner could perform in the dock as part of a plea deal.
“Willie Nelson is not going to be singing in my court,” she laughed. “The county attorney gave an interview and he was joking but people took it seriously. It’s a bit of an embarrassment. I would like to maintain the integrity of my court.”
Nelson, who is a keen advocate of the legalisation of marijuana, was arrested on suspicion of possessing the drug in November last year.
He was released on bail and is waiting to find out if he will face drug possession charges.
