Grammy-Award winning Youssou N'Dour - one of the most celebrated African musicians in history – will return to the UK in March 2008 for a show-stopping one-off gig at Shepherds Bush Empire.
N'Dour has been called 'One of the world's greatest singers' by the New York Times, and 'African artist of the century' by fRoots. In 2007 he was included in Time magazine's 'The Time 100', an annual list of the most influential men and women shaping the world.
With a career spanning over 25-years N'Dour's acclaimed recordings include the album Egypt, which in 2004 won the GRAMMY Award for 'Best Contemporary World Music Album', a MOBO Award, and 'Album Of The Year' at the BBC Radio 3 Awards For World Music. His most recent album, Rokku Mi Rokka (Give and Take) released in October 2007 received rave reviews from UK and global music press; and reunited N'Dour with Neneh Cherry for the first time since their 1994 worldwide hit '7 Seconds'.
Renowned for his remarkable range and poise and for his prodigious musical intelligence as a writer, bandleader, and producer, N'Dour absorbs the entire Senegalese musical spectrum in his work, often filtering this through the lens of genre-defying rock or pop music from outside his culture. Over the past three decades N'Dour has collaborated with several western musicians, including Peter Gabriel, Tracy Chapman, Paul Simon, Neneh Cherry, and Dido, with whom he performed at three Live8 concerts in London, Paris and Cornwall in 2005.
"Return to Goree" - Youssou N'Dour's musical road movie following the trail left by slaves and by the jazz music they invented will be released in spring 2008. N'Dour's long standing project includes music from Moncef Genoud, Idris Muhammed, Wolfgang Muthspiel and many others.
