The 22-year-old High School Musical star adored by teenagers the world over for his boyish good looks is not scared of taking on a challenge, but wouldn’t want to mislead people about who he is.
The American superstar is very wary of his clean-cut, wholesome image, and realises that there will be roles he is unsuitable for that other actors should do instead.
“No, not at all,” he said when asked by British newspaper The Times if he feels tied down to his squeaky persona. “I just wouldn’t want to misrepresent myself.
I don’t want to dive into anything that someone else could do better…”
Zac famously has a close friendship with Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio, who the 17 Again actor greatly admires.
However he isn’t delusional about the likelihood of being able to make the edgier films the similarly boyish-looking Leo could when his career was launching, such as The Basketball Diaries and Total Eclipse.
“It’s a different time now. It’s harder to get those films made,” he admitted. “Also, it has to be roles that I can identify with and relate to. I wouldn’t do it just to do it.”
Zac said that he is willing to be “committed” to the Hollywood industry for the rest of his life, but realises the choice might be out of his hands.
