Nick Hinton Biography
As a singer, songwriter, and composer, Nick Hinton gathers inspiration for his music everywhere, but his ultimate motivation stems from a deep awareness of self and the past. This is especially evident in his first full-length album, The Brave Unknown. Hinton takes listeners through the story of a life, from the bashful first chords of “The Boy Who Could” to the uplifting, self-realization of “The Station.” His passion for his work – especially instrumental music – can be heard throughout the album in moving piano-driven tracks like “Another Day” and the intricately playful beats of “Green.” His narrative lyrics weave each song into a story, and each story intertwines into an anthology that makes The Brave Unknown especially pleasurable to experience nonstop from start to finish. One reviewer calls The Brave Unknown “a journey of emotion, of heartfelt poetry and melodic, almost hypnotic melodies.” Music blog “Pop Culture Beast” describes the tracks as “dreamlike,” and praises their ability to “lift you up and carry you along and lull you into that perfect place that only great music can take you.” Hinton’s devotion to his work extends beyond melodies and lyrics; he played all of the instruments and mixed The Brave Unknown himself, letting nothing stand between the story he wished to tell and his listeners. Story is an integral part of Hinton’s work in general, within his lyrics and especially throughout his instrumental works. “I'm not one of those people who can just pick up a guitar and write a hit song,” Hinton says. “The song has to mean something or come from an experience that means something.” In the case of The Brave Unknown, the songs stemmed from the first track he penned, “Try Again,” and a vivid dream about meeting himself as a boy. The young Nick Hinton, who was born in Scotland and grew up in a small village in the North of England, taught himself piano and guitar, fueled by an early love for The Beatles and an appreciation for his family’s vast record collection. Ever since he played for friends and family at an early age, performance has been a driving force in his life. Today, Hinton is constantly studying composition, writing, and listening. “I completely soak up music, be it a film score or a new album, and I am loving the fact that no matter where the song is from, I can soak it up like a sponge and bring it into my music somehow.” Hinton’s previous credits include composition and arrangements for television and short film. His first release, Raw as the Day, came out in 2004, followed by Haunted in 2007. For more information on Nick please visit:
