She has taken home eight beauty pageant titles; and she has been the subject of MTV interviews (MTV You hear it first) and (MTV show MADE). P-Star is 15 years old. She and her older sister started out life in a foster home until their father gained custody and the three moved to the Bronx. After their father suffered a series of health setbacks, the family moved to Harlem, when P-Star discovered – as she put it – that she “could spit fire.” Before long, she was battling everyone, everywhere and won the Citywide Hip Hop Competition and was the youngest female to enter the competition. Currently P-Star has a documentary. It talks about a talented young hip-hop performer who becomes the vehicle for her father's unfulfilled ambitions in the featured documentary P-STAR RISING filmed by Gabriel Noble of Noble Arts and Tru Films. P-Star has taken her talent as an actress to the next level by joining the cast of PBS “The Electric Company” as one of their leading stars. The show premiered on January 23, 2009. Jessica Ruiz played by P-Star, is a fourteen-year-old girl with total aural recall allowing her to replay and display speech as text. You can catch P-Star as Jessica Monday – Friday @ 5pm on PBS. P-Star released her first album “Welcome to my Show” in 2008 which has 15 songs that are fun and vibrant for children of all ages. The album also includes a promotional DVD with live interviews and videos. P-Star released her first workout DVD for kids entitled “P-STAR Workout DVD Exercise Your Body and Mind Volume 1” in 2007. The debut exercise DVD features Young B (Chicken Noodle Soup) and Darkchild Records artist Megan Rochell. Throughout the DVD P-STAR is reciting multiplication, numbers and alphabets. The DVD even has a segment where children can enjoy working out with their parents or older siblings and gives tips on how important it is to drink water and eat green vegetables. The DVD was such a hit she was featured in New York Daily News twice, NY 1 News, and www.hip-hop-elements.com and mentioned in Los Angeles Times Calendar, Good Day New York, KTLA, New Jersey 1 and Live.com. P-Star a mix tape phenomenon with her first single, “Biggie Bounce,” and video was released in 2007 and is featured on Kidzbop.com. She subsequently became the Opening Voice of Hot 97’s Angie Martinez Show on New York City radio. She opened for Raven Symone at Great Adventures in 2006, and she opened up for Universal Motown artist JoJo in 2007. P-Star has opened up for several other shows for Disney. In 2005, she was featured as the lead vocalist on Reggaeton Ninos Vol. 1, which sold more than 150,000 copies, and Vol. 2 sold over 50,000 copies. Her television appearances include Sabado Gigante, Primer Impacto, One Nation, and the Latin Grammy Awards. P-Star attended the Jo Lee Dance and Performance Arts School, and received acting lessons at the City Lights Youth Theater. Since then, she has appeared in the Off-Broadway production of Take the Train to Maine at the Second Stage Theater. In a short film, 2005’s Sita, she played a little girl dying of AIDS; that year, she also appeared in Hijinks, a Candid Camera-style show for kids on Nick at Nite featuring Susan Sarandon. P-Star shot a pilot for her own show on Nickelodeon, P-Star and Angela. Additionally, she has finalized a second pilot, The Adventures of Super Jane. P-Star received the "Latina of Distinction" award in 2005. The same year, the NYC Dept. of Education honored her with The Legendary Hip Hop Pioneers for the Future of Hip Hop award, recognizing her for her positive presence in the community. This is my love. And I don't ever want to do anything else."
