Petra Magoni Biography
Petra Magoni began singing in a treble voice chorus and later and for many years, she has been experiencing various kinds of music in vocal groups. She studied singing at the Conservatory of Leghorn and at the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music in Milan, specializing in ancient music with Alan Curtis. Over the years, she attended seminars held by Bobby McFerrin, Sheila Jordan (improvvisation), Tran Quan Hay (armonic and diphonic singing), King’s Singers (vocal ensemble). After practising ancient and opera music in the company of Teatro Verdi of Pisa, she came to the rock music with the pisan group Senza Freni, partecipating in the Arezzo Wave contest, 1995 edition. She partecipated twice in the Sanremo national contest (1996 with the song “E ci sei”, 1997 with the song “Voglio un dio”). During that period, she took part in several tv shows (Tappeto volante, Aria fresca, In famiglia, Due come noi, Su le mani and so on), in a theatre tour and in a film (Bagnomaria) of the actor Giorgio Panariello, with whom she composed and recorded the song “Che Natale sei”. Eclectic by nature, she has collaborated with the rapper Stiv and with jazz musicians like Stefano Bollani, Antonello Salis, Ares Tavolazzi… Under the pseudonym of Artepal, she is working in the dance music world as a singer and as a composer (“Don’t give up” has been the leitmotiv of all Sasch ad-spots). She recorded two CDs under her name (Petra Magoni,1996 and Mulini a vento,1997), one CD under the pseudonym of Sweet Anima, edited in January 2000 (containing songs written in english by Lucio Battisti) and one CD electro-pop as Aromatic, together with Giampaolo Antoni (Still Alive published in November 2004). Petra Magoni and Ferruccio Spinetti (contrabass in the Piccola Orchestra Avion Travel) recorded the album MUSICA NUDA in 2004, published by “Storie di Note” which sold over 10.000 copies in Italy and ranked third at Premio Tenco 2004, in the category “performer”. The CD, published also in France, Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg and Switzerland by Bonsai Music in 2005, has already sold over 15.000 copies abroad and has received the prestigious FIP stamp from the public french radio and the acknowledgment of the four “clés” of Télérama. In one year, the Magoni-Spinetti duo has given over 100 concerts in Italy and abroad and, last summer, has started all concerts of the Piccola Orchestra Avion Trave. On the occasion of MEI 2004 (Indipendent Labels Meeting) in Faenza, the duo received the award “Special Project” at the PIMI (Indipendent Music Italian Award). Petra performed also in the May Day concert 2005 with the Grande Orchestra Avion Travel. Petra and Ferruccio were invited to perform at Premio Tenco also in 2005, in the thirty year edition of the Award. Concerning theatre, Petra is solo voice in the small opera “Presepe Vivente e Cantante” - music of Stefano Bollani and lyrics of David Riondino (CD book edited by Donzelli Editore) - and took part in some productions of Archivolto Theatre of Genoa, directed by Giorgio Gallione (Alice Underground, Corto Maltese). With Ferruccio Spinetti and the actress Monica Demuru, she staged “AE DI-Odissea Pop”, epic disconcert and songs, which will be soon produced in CD. With Paolo Benvegnù, Ares Tavolazzi and Monica Demuru, she is working on an original project for the festival “Suoni delle Dolomiti” 2006, with the title “Cime Domestiche”. In March 2006, it was published in Italy (Radiofandango) and in France (Bonsaimusic), at the same time, a double album “Musica Nuda 2” performed by Petra and Ferruccio with important guest stars like Stefano Bollani, Fausto Mesolella, Erik Truffaz, Nicola Stilo, Mirko Guerrini, Monica Demuru and Nico Gori.
