Robert Post Biography
What a journey Robert's been on since his debut "Robert Post" was released in 2005. Being from the small village called Langevåg on the west coast of Norway, and over the years been trying everything from packing eggs, selling tiles, laying bricks and even as a postman which, typically, resulted in him getting the sack. So he decided that he wasn't cut for the ordinary life, and his lifelong love of music seemed the best ticket to the bright lights of London. His first love was a drum kit but the rest of his family didn’t quite appreciate his passion for hitting things very hard and he was forced to learn the trumpet. His natural talent soon flourished and once he had mastered one instrument he quickly moved onto another until he had a whole arsenal of sounds at his disposal. So far so good, we have the makings of a classic multi-instrumental singer songwriter. Robert's early exposure to classic pop music like The Beatles came via his Mum and Dad's record collection - while Robert got into Kiss and Frank Zappa later on. Now he lists Bob Dylan, Serge Gainsbourg and John Lennon among his biggest influences. Aided and abetted by his band mates he set about recording his album. Legendary producer Mike Hedges, who has produced everything from The Cure to Manic Street Preachers, cleared his schedule to record the album, and they even recorded it through the original EMI mixing desk used for Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side Of The Moon". Robert's debut record produced the big hits... 'Got None' and 'There's One Thing', which got him noticed in countries such as France and Italy (Number 1 for 5 weeks in January 2006). And in the UK his album was "Record of the Week" on BBC Radio 2, while both singles were A-listed. In his homeland Norway 'Got None' was one of the most played songs on Norwegian radio that year and the album has sold more than 80,000 copies around the world. In 2006, Post collected two awards at the Norwegian equivalent to the Grammy, 'Spellemannsprisen' for Best Male Artist and Best Video. Robert has toured the world relentlessly and has had some journey since signing his first record deal at 25. He's also played with some of the music world's biggest artists. In the summer of 2005 he supported songstress Aimee Mann in the UK and Ireland. And the following months after the release of his eponymous debut he again toured the country with Texas, Natalie Imbruglia, Ray Lamontagne and Jason Mraz. He also was on the bill at Robert Redford's 'Sundance Film Festival 2006' in Park City sharing the stage with Rufus Wainwright, Imogen Heap and The Weepies. Robert has done quite a few things since becoming a part of people's music conscience - he's played more than 300 shows over the last 5 years, sold out headline shows in London, Paris, Glasgow and in several cities touring Norway. He's played at festivals in the UK, Ireland, mainland Europe and Norway. He's performed on the biggest music shows and talk shows on TV in Italy, France and England like Taratata, Top of the Pops, MTV Pimp My TV's and BBC Breakfast TV. In November 2008 Robert finished off his second record. He produced the record together with Rune Berg (The Margarets, Number Seven Deli) and they started working on it in June 2007. Robert and the band worked on the album at Ocean Sound Recordings, an all-analogue studio situated on the Giske Island, on the stormy shores of West Norway. The new record was released on CD in Norway on August 24 2009 and world wide through digital distribution on the same day. In support of the album release Robert was touring both solo and with The Extended Band around Norway and the UK.
