There are lyrical references in the song explained by the band - 'Granita' was the Islington restaurant where Tony Blair and Gordon Brown made their New Labour pact. Blair's first election victory was confirmed on the 1st of May. Bob Stanley explained more in 2009: "That song's about wishing death on people. I actually went to eat at Granita on the anniversary of the election. There was no one there and it closed for good soon after. We stayed up to the early hours to hear the election results and it felt really exciting. But a year later I felt disillusioned with New Labour. They had a mandate to do so much, but hardly seemed to do anything. The football club thing was triggered by what was happening to Wimbledon FC. They'd been kicked out of their ground so it could be developed and people had started talking about moving the team from London - to Milton Keynes in the end. No team actually moved to Newbury, it just rhymed."
