Sapient Biography
Sapient, a rare breed of emcee, is blessed with gifts of discernment and rhythm, has been a loyal member of the Sandpeople since the early developemental stages. Formerly a graffiti writer, he never could be fulfilled with only the visual arts, so with the help of musical inclination, things fell into place. In 2000 when he first focused his writing skills to hiphop, he had no colleagues. This struggle, lead him to become a producer out of necessity, and with no one to learn from he developed a very original understanding of beats, rhyme schemes and rhythmic intricacies. After hand distributing a multitude of self-made CDs and destroying countless stages in the Northwest, Sapient helped form of the now 10-man crew Sandpeople. In 2004 they released their debut album, Points of View, which was followed by the tandem release of Sapient’s debut solo albums Dry Puddles and Graise Period (produced by Elliot B.). In 2005, Sapient and Ethic formed the torrential duo known as Debaser. Crown Control, Debaser’s debut album dropped in June 2006, contributing largely to Sandpeople's following. After turning out a slew of Sandpeople albums over the next 2 years, in 2008 Sapient released his third solo album Letterhead, with a music video to the single "The Screen", marking a distinct shift in his focus as a solo artist. In 2009 Sapient released his solo album Make More w/ a video for the single "My Grind Is Tech" in June, w/ a remix counterpart Make Morphine for free in September. Make Morphine commenced a "3 free albums in 3 months" campaign which included Debaser's sophomore release, Back To Work (October), and ended with Famine Friends (November) accompanied by 2 music videos, "She Doesn't Love Me" and "Likeness". In late November Sapient & Luckyiam paired up as The Prime, released their debut album One Uppers. In may 2010 Debaser released their 3rd full length album Peerless, which features The Grouch (Living Legends), Cage (Def Jux) & Eyedea (Rhymesayers). In this day and age where every emcee thinks they can sing, Sapient is a true renaissance man of words and melodies, proving to be one of the fasting rising indie hop hop stars.
