Starewell Biography
STAREWELL is a Canadian hard rock, rock ‘n’ roll, pop-rock or metal band, depending on your age/gender and how you relate to ‘what they do’ as musicians. To one person STAREWELL is reminiscent of the Stone Temple Pilots, or Audioslave. To another, STAREWELL “bends the strings like April Wine”, and draws comparisons to Guns’ n’ Roses, The Foo Fighters, Collective Soul and Tesla. It makes sense then that STAREWELL has fit as comfortably on stage with Lynyrd Skynyrd or Nazareth, as they have with The Trews or Hedley. This is not to say that STAREWELL’s music is indescribable, or “a blend of everything from Slayer to Sinatra”. It may just be that STAREWELL has an original sound that is widely appealing and infectious, especially to those with a weak spot for that “driving in your hemi (or your BMX) rock n’ roll”! And those that understand rock, respect the fact that STAREWELL has survived for nearly 8 years as an independent artist and consequently has had to butt heads as much as they’ve done the happy dance. Perhaps this is why their new album Broke and out of money, slated for release in the spring of 2008 promises to be such a captivatingly candid album. Following on the success of their 2006 release Those who matter which boasted the top 20 single “Blurrier” and the equally successful title track; the socially conscious Broke and out of money reveals a more aggressive, and intelligent side to STAREWELL. For example, tracks like “28” reflect the band’s maturity and willingness to experiment (or a little Iron Maiden, depending on who you ask). Listeners also get many a glimpse into the STAREWELL diary with songs like “Down on me” and “Broke and out of money”--first hand accounts of life on the road that will certainly explain what it is like off stage. Even the fear and greed behind their booming hometown is addressed in the songs “High society” and “Anymore”. Through and through, Broke and out of money oozes ferocity and the character that can only be described as “the way things are”. To STAREWELL “the way things are” is eleven tracks on a rock album. To you it may be something else. Regardless, do yourself a favor and check it out.
