Sunny And The Sunglows Biography
First hit was on a small San Antonio label named Harlem. Recorded his own Chicano soul type music versions of songs he wrote like "Just a Moment", "Golly Gee","Put Me in Jail", "Smile Now, Cry Later" covers of Talk to Me, Rags to Riches,Just A Dream, Close Your Eyes,Guess Who and Mexican hits like Carino Nuevo,etc. They originally recorded on the Sunglow Record label which was located on 3207 S. Flores on the Southside of San Antonio, Texas Sunny Ozuna was the lead singer of the Sunglows and he was to Tejano music what James Brown was to Soul Music. He went national with "Golly Gee" on the Okeh label, a offshoot label of Columbia which included artists like Bob Wills and Major Lance of "Monkey Time" fame amongst other artists. In 1963 he also went National on American Bandstand with "Talk to Me, a cover of the Little Willie John song which he first recorded with the Sunglows on Sunglow Records. Then He formed a new band named The Sunliners Which were picked up by Huey P. Meaux and this is the record label, Teardrop, that gave him national attention on American Bandstand when he sang "Talk to Me" on national tv and was interviewed by Dick Clark. He also recorded for Disco Grande, DLB,Key-Loc records and did a lot of Mexican and English albums on these labels as well as bilingual albums and he is honored in the Tejano Hall of Fame along with his groups as the Founding Father of Tejano- Soul music or brown-eyed soul music in San Antonio and the State of Tejas.
