A sold-out 300-date World Tour over the past 18 months has brought The Parlotones to the attention of music fans in Austria, Benelux, France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, the UK and the US - where they packed out 1000+ capacity venues by word of mouth alone. After heading to Australia for their first performance down under at the One Movement for Music Perth festival, the band's homeland crowd in South Africa was able to see their most beloved rock band at Cape Town's Grand West Arena, and at the Coca Cola Dome in Johannesburg. The latter was packed with 12 000 fans who helped The Parlotones make history - being the first South African band headlining the venue - and close their biggest global tour yet. From their origins in Johannesburg, South Africa, the rock 4-piece has achieved multiplatinum-selling status in their home country, selling more records than Coldplay, The Killers and Oasis together. They are now set to conquer these shores with their darkly romantic lyrics, atmospheric pop structures and ambitious live show which have been earning a rave response from fans and critics alike. Their recent secret warm-up show in Kentish Town, London attracted nearly double the capacity of the venue, forcing the band to access the stage by climbing over the bar. In their home country, the band’s profile is such that they were chosen to play the 2009 Presidential Inauguration, Africa Day and at Live Earth. Their innovative, big-production music videos have been nominated for MTV awards and The Parlotones won two awards at the prestigious ISC (International Song Contest), in the US, judged by the likes of Robert Smith, Tom Waits and Rob Thomas. Music industry showcases at South by South West, MIDEM and Dubai Sound City followed and have firmly established The Parlotones as one of the world’s most exciting new acts. Their success is not limited to their music alone – the band have their own brand of wine ‘Giant Mistake’ which has earned the band a no.1 in the Sunday Times wine list and distribution through major European retailers. Their music has also been made available through Sony Ericsson phones and they have their own branded laptop and a Parlotones meal available from a global food retailer. On April 18th , 2010, The Parlotones played at the Dow Life Earth Run for Water in Cape Town. The Parlotones have also been confirmed to perform as part of the 2010 Official FIFA World Cup Kick Off Celebration concert. Other performing artists include Black Eyed Peas, Alicia Keys and Shakira. The concert will take place on June 10th, 2010 at Orlando Stadium in Soweto, Johannesburg and will be screened to millions all over the world.
