The Timelords Biography
The Timelords was one of the aliases used by Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty, who also used the names The KLF and The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu (aka The JAMs). They recorded one single under the name of The Timelords, "Doctorin' the Tardis," which was a mash-up of the Dr. Who theme song, Blockbuster by The Sweet and Rock and Roll Part 2 by Gary Glitter. The song was a number one hit in the UK in the summer of 1988. Instead of objecting to the mash-up, Gary Glitter wanted in, and a version of the song with his vocals added, "Gary in the Tardis," was released as well. In 1989, the duo's tongue-in-cheek book The Manual (How to Have a Number One the Easy Way) was published.
