Thee Prophets Biography
These were four young men that lived in the same neighborhood in a working class suburb of Milwaukee, WI. They were about the same age and went to the same high school. All started their musical education at nearly the same time, in Junior High School. Three of them played together for years with several other interchangeable members over the years and several changes in music genre. The fourth member, me, played the bar circuit with two or three other bands. As we all honed our skills one day Dave (the Bassist) and myself (Jim, the guitarist) were sitting in the student union, both dissatisfied with the direction that our musical life was going, and decided to try another route together. He talked to Brian (Keyboards) and Mike (Drums) and they were of the same mindset. We had one rehearsal and two days later we played a four hour gig. The sound solidified quickly and soon we were on our way. Within a year we had cut our first single (Playgirl), had a national recording contract, and we should have fired our producer. By the time the album came around, our production company had taken us totally out of the creative picture. Finally after the album was cut and he introduced us to our next single release, we unanomously told them to 'stick it' and refused to record that "bubble gum" crap anymore. The true music that we were into, was what we were playing 'live' on stage - the "Underground" music of Jimi Hendrix, Cream and Electric Flag. They found studio musicians to record the last three singles, without any actual members of the band involved, other than using our name on the records - records that never made it out of the gate. After that Dave got married ending his career, I got married ending my career. Brian and Mike continued the group with new guitar players until October of 1972, although no additional records were ever cut. The album and singles are still available on ebay.
