Thuy Chi Biography
Being the most popular singer on the internet according to fans’ votes, Thùy Chi (Trần Thùy Chi) has been known for big TV shows such as Bài Hát Việt (Vietnamese song) with sweet songs: Giấc mơ trưa (Noon dream), Đêm nằm mơ phố (Dream of streets at night), Giấc mơ mang tên mình (A dream called my name)… Born in Hải Dương, Chi lives in a family which has artistic tradition. Her father works at provincial service of culture and information, when her mother works at Hải Dương Children’s services department – where big Stars, like Hồng Nhung, Thanh Lam … used to be trained as children. At the age of six, she had to leave home for Hà Nội to learn vocal music. As for her father expectation, Chi studied Piano major in Hà Nội Music College. So far, She’s been taking big changes since she lived far away from home for 11 years. At present, She still love piano, but she’s got her fame in another area: Singing. “I just sing the songs that I really love, for no reason or any personal benefit…”, Thùy Chi said honestly. Getting a soft and sweet voice, though Chi hasn’t been trained in any vocal courses, she sings the songs which got profound melody, and It’s her smooth voice that makes her songs attractive. Once Chi listened to “Giấc Mơ Trưa” and loved it, then she went to the studio to record it with her friend. Her friend uploaded it without knowing that It would create unbelievably great feedbacks from the internet dwellers. They share this audio file, More and more people try to find whereabouts of this myterious girl. As Khánh Linh sings “Giấc Mơ Trưa” with a skilled voice, Chi has “Giấc Mơ Trưa” with her pureness. That’s why when her friend upload it, the number of its access which raised sharply, was much more than the numbers of other professional singers. Now that she’s known for many great covers and songs such as Lời Chưa Nói (Things we haven’t said), Anh (You), Giai điệu tình yêu (Love melody), … Chi told that she knew singing from very early ages. “Even though before she knew how to speak, she had been able to sing”, her father told. When she was just a 22-month baby, her father had her recorded. He played mandolin and she sang! Won the best prize in Tuổi Đời Mênh Mông (A music competition show for high school students only, on VTV3 - one of the most major channels in Vietnam), but Chi rarely sings a solo on stages. She joined a girlband named TSD, which gets Minh Phương, Ly Hương, Trà My and Thùy Chi. TSD, whose girls are all students of Hà Nội Music College, had its members be able to play instruments. In 2005, TSD took part in a music competition for high school and university bands all over the country. In this same year, the first time Chi sang a solo, Đốm Lửa (Flake of fire) composed by Thanh Hòa – her schoolfellow, on Bài Hát Việt (BHV) stage. At the same time, she had to make two important performances: One on BHV stage and the other with her band in “the music competition for high school and university bands all over the country”. That’s the reason why she weared “childlike” dress singing on BHV stage. Once Having finished, she had to run hastily to her band. In that year, her band won a special prize, the prize for most-wanted band. In her everday life, she’s very simple. Short hair, 1.5-degree glass, knapsack, raucous voice, gentle smile and naivety of senventhteen are all that she gets. Unlike the other teenagers, she’s quite calm as she knows that she’s “hot” on music forum. Not likely as many fans think, she says that singing has never been her virtual passion. Maybe for this reason, she doesn’t intend to become professional singer. At the age of 17, she seems to be more mature than the other ones. When being asked why Chi doesn’t follow the kind of current music like many teenage singers such as Bảo Thy with market-pop, Kim Jojo with Rap and Hiphop… She smiles and reply: “At first, I’m not as pretty as them. Sencondly, I don’t like the music that they sing. I like peaceful melody, which you have to hear and feel by your heart. Moreover, I don’t like coloured lights on stages. It seems like I don’t have good luck with stages. I was with BHV twice, both these times I got sore throat and cough. Though I was able to finish my performances, but they weren’t satifying. That’s why there are people think that technologies in studio do me good.” It might be Thùy Chi who is the youngest singer on BHV stage. She wasn’t experienced enough and had never performed on any professional show before. The Press judged that BHV was too venturesome to introduce a brand-new one. To be honest, Chi has a beautiful, natural voice, but it’s frail. When she’s on big stage, her voice becomces weak and quiver. That makes the spirit of the songs unable to be felt. It’s said that her pure voice should fit in a quiet place like studio.
