Trevor Davis Biography
The passion and talent of singer-songwriter Trevor Davis are not to be missed. He seamlessly combines pop, rock, and soul to deliver well-constructed songs that are highly original. Using rich metaphors and clever plays on words, he communicates to his listeners with music that is both thought provoking and meaningful. On stage, Trevor captivates his audience with a strong, soulful voice that can reach to a cutting falsetto with ease, all the while engaging them with witty banter and dance moves as entertaining as his music. Trevor was born on May 23, 1980. He always had a burning passion for music. He got his soulfulness from being raised in a gospel church where his single mother and him were the only white people. At a very young age, he started to sing on a karaoke machine that he got as a Christmas gift. He would sing for days, recording himself and listening back thinking, "I could do that better". He would imitate different voices from all different styles of artists and bands. Growing up, Trevor’s life led him on an uneasy road. He didn't have a father and his single mother struggled to provide for his needs. His grandmother and aunt helped out in raising him. There was never much food in the house, but he still had that karaoke machine so he would sing away. When Trevor was in 6th grade, he started going to a different church. One of the leaders at the church started to hang out with him and became a father figure in his life. Trevor had a chance to do things he never got to do as a child. Never having money growing up was a struggle for Trevor and his mother. This man had a successful business and decided to pay for him to go to a private school that had music classes. In ninth grade, he wanted to take bass guitar class so he went through a month with no food so that he could buy a bass guitar. His two best friends and him started a punk band where Trevor was the bass player (still not singing). He would go to hardcore music shows almost every weekend being drawn to the music that was hard and angry. One day he decided he just wasn't angry anymore. He realized that the angry music he was listening to lost its flavor and decided he needed to move in a different direction. When Trevor was a senior in high school, he found out about this vocal coach Joni Wilson and somehow got the money to take a voice lesson from her. Before taking lessons, not even his closest friends knew he could sing. After about four lessons, he sang the National Anthem at his high school basketball game. Shortly after that, he won first place at his high school talent show. It was a great start. Always using the creative side of his brain, he didn't do that well in school but he excelled in honors art. Before he started to sing, he was voted most talented in the high school yearbook for his Michael Jackson dance impersonations that he did at earlier talent shows. After he graduated, he had no idea what to do. He wanted to sing, but he didn't have songs or know where to start. So he went to college and learned about music. He hated it. He wanted to play not learn. He started playing the guitar because he couldn't write songs with his bass guitar. The songs on his record "Seven Days" are the first songs he ever wrote. Trevor loves abstract thoughts, plays on words, and double meanings. He doesn’t like to state the obvious. He loves music that makes you think but is also emotional. He says, “Music has to have conviction. I need to believe that people actually experience what they are singing about.” Because of this, he is thankful for his hard and hurtful past. He can mix his past with hope, which gives him a larger spectrum to work with in his music writing. Trevor says, “Even though God really is the only hope we have, that doesn't mean I write all my songs about God.” There is a quote by T-Bone Bernett that inspired Trevor, “I don't write about the light (God), I write about what I see because of the light.” So if Trevor writes a song about his future wife or his dog, he sees it through that perspective. Trevor plays to packed houses in Los Angeles and San Diego and is focused currently on touring the west coast as often as he can. All the time spent on the road has allowed Trevor to craft his abilities and truly create his own sound. He is releasing his first full-length record "Nothing Ringing True" on November 24, 2007.
