Upperdeck Biography
UpperDeck - Biography UpperDeck have their roots in the acoustic, melodic based antics of founding members vocalist Nathan Salisbury and guitarist Alfred Gorman, who have been buggering around since the early 90s (a millennium ago). Theres a time and a place for everything, and its called University, and thats where all the boys met. The lively presence of Tim Ruse on lead guitar brought with him some blues riffery, and the ocassional rap, while Pete Bell, a man with his roots firmly in punk, joined the intricate drumming of Conor Traynor, to create quite a tight little rhythm section. The 5 piece lineup formed early 1999 for the objective of entering, and winning, the Campus Band Comp - a quick set was developed of basically rocky versions of earlier acoustic songs - the group didn't make it past the first round, but undeterred, they enjoyed themselves so much, they continued on to expand their sound and write more songs derived from boozy weekly jam sessions. After some semi-regular gigging, the boys entered the infamous 20 minutes of fame comptetion, and after a wildcard into the final, found themselves being judged the winner. Using the recording studio time prize, they produced a classic EP, a snapshot of a place, and a time - Night Turns to Day, was a melodic, guitar led, ahead of its time, power pop opus, from a band that should have gone on to so much more - but instead ended up going their separate ways, due to their lives taking different paths, not long after the EPs release that was received well in the local scene. THE BAND were: Alfred Gorman - Guitar, Vocals Nathan Salisbury - Vocals Tim Ruse - Guitar Pete Bell - Bass Conor Traynor - Drums
