Yashin Biography
Having started out several years ago Yashin have slowly built-up a fanbase that seems to keep growing and growing, regardless of the fact Yashin remain unsigned they are still one of the most loved bands to come out of Glasgow, Scotland having numerous fans not just in Scotland and the rest of UK but globally as well. Yashin come under influences from Funeral for a Friend, Killswitch Engage, Parkway Drive and many more. When Yashin first started out they were finding it very difficult and Michael Rice stated that "There are a lot of talented bands around at the moment and British music is booming. We are trying to secure a record deal, but being in an unsigned band and skint is very difficult" However, despite having to work two jobs each to make ends meet while they rehearse, tour and promote their music, the band, who also included Paul Travers, Andrew and Paul McShane and David Beaton from Glasgow and Greenock - has steadily built up a fan base. In 2005, they qualified for the King Tut’s TBreak Showcase and Emergenza Final at Glasgow Carling, and also went on a tour of America in the summer of 2006. Michael continues: “The best gig we have played was either CJ’s Landing in Atlanta, Arlene’s Grocery in New York, or Glasgow Barfly late last year. The crowds were big and everyone really enjoyed our set. We had taken some time out to write new material which was really bouncy and upbeat, and it went down well with the live audiences.” Yashin like their fellow brothers from the Scottish heartland (Flood Of Red) focus mainly on the screamo genre but have been known to mix it up with acoustic versions. Yashin have shared the stage with many bands including Lost Prophets, The Used, Gallows, Aiden, Rise Against, The Blackout, Flood of Red, Kids In Glass Houses, Azriel, My Mind's Weapon, Ghost of a Thousand, Zico Chain, Dividing the Line & We are the Ocean. They have also appeared on the Channel 4 programme "MobileAct Unsigned" in which they featured gaining suitable praise from Radio 1 presenter Jo Whiley. They have also played numerous festivals such as Taste of Chaos 2007 & 2008 and appeared at T in the Park. In October 2008 Mike left the band and in the new year of 2009 his role was passed on to Harry and Kev. The album Yashin originally started recording continued with the input of Mike and is nearing completion with only a few samples left to finish, the process however was delayed by Funeral For A Friend who returned to the same studio (Longwave Studios, Wales) and has consequently meant the album release has been pushed back. On 18th June 2009 Yashin uploaded their cover of "Everytime" originally performed by Britney Spears which has been relatively well recieved by fans so far. Possibly one of the UK's most under-rated bands, many have commentated on their everlasting impression on the music community since their supporting tour with Madina Lake when they were stated as being as awe-inspiring as the headliners! Since then the band has gone from strength to strength with numerous sell-out shows that have captured the hearts and minds of the community that seems to grow and continue to follow the band. Their latest installment of musical genius stems from the album "Put Your Hands Where I Can See Them" which was recorded at Longwave Studios (The same studios in which Funeral For A Friend, The Blackout and many other high-profile bands have recorded).
