Blake McGrath Biography
As a child Blake McGrath was always moving. “I wanted to entertain,” says McGrath. Born and raised in Mississauga, a suburb outside of Toronto, Canada, McGrath knew what he wanted and how he would get it. He decided to throw himself fully into studying dance and stuck to it. At the age of 25, McGrath has accomplished what most only dream of – he has shared the stage with superstars such as Madonna, Janet Jackson, Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce and Mariah Carey. All are opportunities that came his way after he decided to take his dance career to Los Angeles, leaving his friends and family behind. In 2004, while McGrath was quietly taking over the dance scene in the United States, a reality show called So You Think You Can Dance was in development. McGrath felt this was the perfect opportunity for him to showcase his talent and become a household name. McGrath made it to the top 10 and continued in the competition as a front runner. Although he did not make it to the finals, the judges still referred to him as the best technical dancer the show had ever seen. McGrath was disappointed with the outcome of the show but he did not let go of his dreams. Shortly after, Blake was casted to star in an MTV reality show entitled "Dance Life" Produced by Jennifer Lopez. Sadly, after one season Lopez decided not sign on to a second season, bringing the show to an end. McGrath was once again disappointed, but thankful for the opportunity. He continued to tour with the world’s biggest acts and decided to learn from their performances. Not knowing if he was good enough he mustered up the confidence to sing in front of his peers. Impressed by his natural tone and vocal range his counterparts encouraged him to pursue a singing career. In 2008, after completing a world tour with Janet Jackson, McGrath thought it was time to take his music more seriously. At the same time he was offered the chance to be a guest judge and choreographer on the Canadian version of So You Think You Can Dance. McGrath took the offer and traveled back to where he grew up. During his time in Toronto, he met a young producer and writer, JDiggz, through his management. JDiggz is best known for his independent album Memoirs of a Playbwoy that received a great praise in Canada. The two quickly become great friends and started recording in JDiggz’s studio in downtown Toronto. By the end of the So You Think You Can Dance season McGrath had completed his first demo album. He hopes that with his drive and determination he will conquer the music industry as he has the dance world.
