Doni Biography
"DONI" born in Milwaukee, WI and raised in Atlanta, GA at 22 is already a veteran in the music industry. Derived from a family of musicians with her mother "Lady Blue" being a jazz singer and her uncle "Kamauh Meriwether" on the sax both formally members of the band "Jufure", Doni is no stranger to the music business. "She's a natural, its in her blood, she has an incredible and undeniable voice, grace, and beauty," says "Eshe" of the two time grammy award winning group "Arrested Development", whom also helped in molding Doni into the great entertainer that she is today. Singing since the age of nine, she landed her first record deal with Laface Records at the age of twelve w/ Nine Lives Productions (Ian Burke, Eric Johnston) then she recorded duet "What Love Is" w/ Elektra recording artist "Mista." With her being such a young talent label execs were unsure about what direction to take "Doni" so at the age of 14 she was released from the label. Shortly after being released from Laface, she performed at the "Tabernacle" where reps from Mike Tyson's label "Tyson Records" soon discovered and signed the young talent. "When I first signed Tyson had his deal with Def Jam then after not turning in my album by its deadline he lost that distribution so then I had to do a showcase for Tyson Records in LA in which we landed a deal with Warner Brothers," says Doni in her 2006 interview, "working with Mike Tyson was amazing, I've had an oppurtunity to work with some great producers and writers such as: Tricky Stewart, Tracy Hale, Tab and Zeke of Red Zone Entertainment, Mike City, Kelly Price, Dada & Carlos, Babyface, Keith Sweat, Rodney Jerkins, the list just goes on.......the company Tyson Records ended up folding in 2001 and I've been grinding every since. I'm a firm believer everything happens for a reason, I can't complain, I've learned so much throughout the years and patience truly is a virtue, however, now is my time more than ever and I'm no longer basing my success upon a label signing me, I'm moving INDEPENDENT!
