Felicity Urquhart Biography
2006 started with a bang for Felicity at the Tamworth Music Festival, with the new album My Life being launched to thousands of fans in the main street, sellout concert, named a finalist in Female Vocalist of the Year at the CMAA Awards and was invited to join friend Russell Crowe and his band The Ordinary Fear Of God, to perform a duet on stage at the Golden Guitars. Felicity has spent the past few years writing songs for this latest album. Her focus was to be lyrically honest, remaining unaffected by musical trends, and by doing this, shes managed to create her own unique sound. It's a little bit country, with loads of integrity, a touch of roots and a whole lot of class. Felicity sings beautifully with such raw emotion and sincerity, and with this new album, has emerged as one of Australian musics most sophisticated artists. Her musical roots are as true as they come growing up influenced by country music icons in her hometown of Tamworth where she set her sights firmly on making music. My Life is Felicitys eagerly awaited fifth album, but to the singer, it almost feels like her first. Its taken me until now to have the confidence in my own writing Felicity said. At times in the studio, I felt very naked and vulnerable, especially with the track, Lonely Girl. I really loved working with Glen Hannah as producer. He made the album come together, it was quite special to have such a positive and creative producer for my music. Im so happy its the album Ive always wanted to make. This superb collection of refreshingly honest songs is sure to impress any music lover. Collaborators include some of Nashvilles finest in Randy Scruggs, Robert Lee Castleman, Al Anderson and Jennifer Kimball, as well as Australian writers Kevin Bennett and Glen Hannah. Felicitys wide-ranging appeal, helped score her the coveted gig as TV presenter on Channel Sevens travel program, Sydney Weekender, including an appearance in the new national series, Mike Whitneys Walkabout - which all serve to keep her schedule busy. In 2004 her independent EP, Turn Out The Light reached the Top 5 in the country charts, and garnered finalist accolades in the 2005 Golden Guitar Awards, TIARAs and Peoples Choice Awards. The second single, Dear Someone, a duet with Glen Hannah, achieved the same recognition, becoming a Top 10 hit and named Best Duet at the 2005 Victorian & National Country Music Awards. Widespread airplay has helped gain a Top 5 hit for the first single The Flood, a moving dedication to her parents. Its the sort of song that will draw you in every time you hear it and serves as a powerful introduction to My Life. Felicity has continued the success with her Top 5 hit single and title track My Life, penned by Robert Lee Castleman. Her third single taken from her latest album is BIG BLACK CLOUD - co-written with Randy Scruggs and guest vocals of Kevin Bennett (The Flood).
