Itchycoo Biography
Itchycoo are a Swedish pop duo comprising of Mia Bergström and Tobias Gustafsson and was formed in the city of Gothenburg in 2002. The band's musical style has varied across their two albums and encompasses their early pop leanings through to their Kean and Coldplay inspired second album, which was subsequently not released. Their self titled debut album Itchycoo (2003/4) released on Virgin Records Germany, gave them a solid base in their adopted country of Germany where they won the prestigious 2003 Radio SWR3 New Pop Festival and were nominated for an German Music Industry "Echo Award" in 2004. The band are perhaps best known for their single "Killer Bee", from the album Ithcycoo (2003/4). In 2004, Itchycoo reached the semi-finals of the Swedish Eurovision Song Contest and continued their European Tour supporting PiNK! in Germany. In 2006, the band spent the year writing songs and producing for other artists including in Germany - No Angels reaching #3, in Spain - Edurne reaching #12, in Japan - Miz reaching Top 40. Their passion for song writing continued through 2007 as they worked again with the No Angels and then in Sweden with Martin Stenmarck reaching #1 (certified Platinum). Itchycoo played one show in Berlin in December 2007. It was most likely their last for a while as the duet opted to take a break and focus on their own individual projects, with Tobias starting his rock project - Straight Frank and Mia going solo but staying close to her Itchycoo roots. In 2008, Tobias wrote and produced the #1 Swedish single "Jennie Let Me Love You" for Swedish band E.M.D. At seven weeks in the #1 spot and (to date) over three months in the Top 25, "Jennie Let Me Love You" is the biggest selling single in Sweden of 2008 to date and has certified double platinum. History: Mia Bergström and Tobias Gustafsson both attended the Academy of Music and Drama in Gothenborg, where they met each other. Years later they met again with their respective bands in a Gothenburg Bar called the "Itchycoo Bar". Realising they connected musically, "Itchycoo" the band was born. With two demo songs in their hands, the duo flew to Cannes, France for the MIDEM music business trade fair, where they met music manager Paul DH Baylay. Six months later they signed to Virgin Records Munich on a world wide deal. For the debut album the band flew out to Los Angeles and worked with Guy Roche before heading back to Sweden and completing the album with Peter Kvint, Douglas Carr and song writing team - Epicentre.
