Ever since Jay-Z and Kanye West announced official plans to put out an album together, fans and the world of hip-hop at large have been eagerly awaiting the release. And although we still have some time ahead of us before for the collection, titled Watch the Throne, hits stores, the release of first single "H.A.M" last week has been received with open, eager ears.
MTV News caught up with fellow rap superstar 50 Cent at the Weinstein Golden Globes afterparty on Sunday, and we asked him his thoughts on the big team-up.
"It should be interesting," he said. "When you've got two artists, it's a good combination, good collaborations come out of it."
A number of other notables from the hip-hop world have been putting in their two cents about Watch the Throne and "H.A.M."
"I don't know if it's a hit radio record but it's an event," said Reggie Hawkins, program director for Hip-Hop Nation and talent manager for Eminem's Shade 45 satellite radio station.
Producer Swizz Beats, who's worked with both Kanye and Jay-Z and will be involved in Watch the Throne, called the overall collaboration a step in the right direction.
"I think that those being both of my friends, and knowing that people can team up on such a high-caliber level as musicians, as rappers, as friends, as peers — I think it's super positive," he said. "And I think that if more of the industry did moves like this it would be a better place for everybody," he said.
"This is good for hip-hop," Jake Paine, editor-in-chief of HipHopDX.com, said last week. "It's been a long time since there was a highly anticipated first-quarter release. The media is guaranteed a win, but I think the music will equally benefit."
