Adam Levine was "very uncool" at school.
The Maroon 5 frontman is admired the world over by adoring female and male fans alike, but insists this wasn't always the case.
Adam has recalled not being so popular with the ladies as a teen.
"When I was 14 to 15, I think it was a little less cool to be in a band. I was very uncool, had disgusting long hair and shorts down to [to my knees], cut off shorts — I desperately wanted to be Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam really badly, and I was just a nerdy, awkward kid and I was obsessed with music," he told Access Hollywood Live.
"And eventually, once I realised that singing was something that girls like, which I didn't know about really, [it became], just kind of 'Wow… Oh my God, girls like this! I'm shocked!'
"So I kept doing it — maybe for that reason."
Adam is dating supermodel Anne V. Although he avoided answering whether they will be tying the knot anytime soon, the star gushed about his gorgeous partner.
"I'm happy, and I'm in love," he said.
Adam is a coach and mentor on hit TV talent show The Voice alongside Cee Lo Green, Christina Aguilera and country star Blake Shelton.
The singer wasn't sure who Blake was initially.
"I didn't know who Blake was actually, to be totally honest, and then once I got to know him, he's an amazing dude, and so funny," he said. "He kind of totally demolishes whatever your idea of what a country artist is, and I love that about him.
"[Cee Lo] is a unique creature. There is only one Cee Lo Green and I love that about him. Sometimes I feel like Men In Black — it makes me believe in aliens because, I feel like sometimes, every once in a while, there's a little man in his head changing gears. He's such a fascinating, such a sweet guy."
