Adam Levine will "never" tell anyone where the name Maroon 5 originated from.
The handsome musician fronts the award-winning band he formed in 1994 and is currently joined by Jesse Carmichael, Mickey Madden, James Valentine, Matt Flynn and PJ Morton. It is unclear what inspired the memorable title of the group, which was previously called Kara's Flowers, and Adam insists that it will remain that way.
"I'll tell you the truth: I won't tell you where the name came from. It was my idea never to tell anybody," he mused on The Late Show with David Letterman about the origin of his band's name. "Can I give you some truth? The origin of the name is so bad and such a terrible story that we decided that shrouding it in mystery will make it a better story than the actual story... it works!"
Host David seemed curious to find out more. However, Adam cleared up any ideas it was a negative event that triggered the name.
"Allow me to clarify, I apologise, it wasn't a bad thing that took place. It was more an uneventful boring stupid story that makes me feel bad about myself. So I'll never tell!" he laughed.
While the 35-year-old singer may remain secretive about his band, he did recently address rumours that he slept with Lindsay Lohan. Earlier this year a list emerged, which appeared to show the actress' conquests, with Adam being one of the names on the paper.
"That's not true. I did not have sexual intercourse with Lindsay Lohan…" Adam exclaimed during an appearance on The Howard Stern Show.
