The 32-year-old Maroon 5 frontman is dating Victoria's Secret model Anne Vyalitsyna.
He told Piers Morgan: 'I want to start having kids. [But] not for seven or eight years! I'd love to be maybe considering the idea of having a family. And at [42], I'd love to have maybe a two-year-old.'
Levine was also asked if that means he also doesn't want to get married.
He said: 'Not necessarily. I don't think that you necessarily have to be married to have children… Marriage is a controversial thing, clearly.
'I find that in a lot of ways, it doesn't work. Then in some ways, it does. I'm inspired by certain marriages. I'm uninspired by others.'
