Adam Levine is glad The Voice has raised his profile and made people "listen to what [he] says now".
The Maroon 5 frontman is a judge and mentor on the hit TV talent show alongside Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green and Blake Shelton. Adam has joked about his popularity soaring since joining the panel on the hit series.
"It was an incredible thing for my career. We were doing really well before this. We didn't need this, per se, but it changed things, elevated things," he told the UK edition of OK! magazine. "People kind of got to know who I was.
"It's nice to be able to speak because everyone knows what you're like when you sing. I like the fact that people are listening to what I say now, at least a little bit more than they had before!"
Adam empathises with the contestants on The Voice. The singer knows how hard being in the public eye can be at times.
"Plenty, oh yeah people criticise you all the time," he explained. "People have criticised me today, constantly, but you have to get to a certain point where you think to yourself, okay, well I'm here now, so I'll either take what you say and use it and learn from it and grow from it, or I won't listen to what you say.
"I have the luxury of being able to do that now. I'm a musician and I'm a guitar player and I'm the singer in the band. I don't consider myself to be a tried and true vocalist in the true sense of the word because that's not how it started. I love music and I love playing music and the singing was just a role I assumed."
