Adele could barely contain her emotions on Tuesday (15Mar16) following the romantic proposal between two fans on the first night of her London residency.
The soul superstar kicked off the first of eight nights at The O2 in her native London, and it was an extra special night for one couple, which had been together for 12 years.
As Adele belted out her cover of Bob Dylan ballad Make You Feel My Love, the guy dropped down to one knee in the middle of the audience and asked his longtime girlfriend to marry him. She said yes and after finishing the song, Adele invited the pair onstage to help celebrate their new engagement.
"(That was) the most beautiful thing I've witnessed at one of my shows," she gushed to the overjoyed couple as the bride-to-be wiped away tears of joy. "Congratulations, I'm so happy for you!"
Tuesday's romantic show proposal was a far cry from a similar stunt a female fan pulled at the launch of Adele's U.K. tour in Belfast, Northern Ireland on 29 February (16), when the devotee tried to embrace the leap year tradition, where the roles are reversed and the woman pops the question to her man.
During the gig, the lady revealed she had asked her boyfriend to marry her earlier in the day, but he didn't appear to be a fan, replying, "Maybe in a little while." Adele was not happy with his answer and publicly scolded him, saying, "You have to say yes, or (the crowd) is going to turn on you!" She then had the audience chant, "Come on, Neil!", as he finally accepted his girlfriend's proposal, prompting Adele to jump for joy.
The singer will return to The O2 on Wednesday (16Mar16) for the second of six consecutive shows, while she will be back on the London stage for another two dates on 4 and 5 April (16).
