Adele reportedly channelled her heartbreak over a former flame into the lead song from her new album.
On Sunday (18Oct15) a clip of the emotional track was played on British TV, sending fans into a frenzy. Her upcoming record will be her first in four years and insiders say she'll address her feelings about her first love. It's a surprise, as she's currently dating Simon Konecki, who she has son Angelo, three, with.
"The talk over the last few months has been that the album won't be able to live up to the hype, but just 33 words from one song has turned all of that thinking on its head," a source marvelled to Britain's newspaper The Sun.
"She's written a sequel to Someone Like You, which is what everyone has wanted but no one believed she would do because she's in a long-term relationship with a man who she has a child with."
Someone Like You was the second single from her sophomore album 21 and addressed a breakup. Adele has never publicly addressed who the song is about, but there are rumours it's photographer Alex Sturrock, who she dated between 2008 and 2009.
In the teaser from her new track she croons: "Hello/ It's me/ I was wondering if, after all these years you'd like to meet to go over everything/ They say that time's supposed to heal you, but I ain't done much healing."
It could be tough for current partner Simon, who has also had to deal with speculation their relationship is on the rocks. "This whole process is clearly going to be very difficult for Simon because she's singing about the love of her life - and the reality is that it isn't him," the insider sighed.
"There are bound to be love songs on the album about Simon and Angelo, but it's telling that the song she's going to be selling the album on isn't about him."
