Adele Electrifies Oscars With 'Skyfall' Performance

Adele let loose with her very own James Bond tribute on Sunday night's (February 24) Oscars. Done up in sequined all-black everything, the diva gave a flawless performance of the theme song for "Skyfall"

Best Actress nominee Jennifer Lawrence, who introduced the Brit singer, described the tune as "irresistible," adding that it "has joined the canon of great James Bond music."

Then the Grammy winner, along with an orchestra, hit the Dolby Theatre stage for a rendition of the Oscar-nominated song that filled the room. With her hair down and looking a bit wild, Adele was officially back on the scene and without missing a beat.

The new mother had been keeping a low profile since the birth of her son last fall. But her voice was as rich as it has ever been, even after an absence from the stage. As Adele hit the crescendo in "Skyfall," the stage lights became brighter and colored smoke filled the background; the retro feel of the track was highlighted by a choir joining her onstage.

The Paul Epworth-produced "Skyfall" theme was up for Best Original Song, facing off against "Before My Time" (from "Chasing Ice"); "Everybody Needs A Best Friend" (from "Ted," and which happens to be written by 2013 Oscars host Seth MacFarlane); "Pi's Lullaby" (from "Life of Pi"); and "Suddenly" (from "Les Miserables"). Adele won the Golden Globe for the song last month before taking home the Oscar as well on Sunday.

Earlier in the night, singer Shirley Bassey paid homage to the James Bond franchise as the legendary spy series turns 50. The iconic OG took the stage for a jazzy rendition of one of her own Bond themes, "Goldfinger."
