Adele "froze" when her performance of All I Ask at the Grammy Awards on Monday (15Feb16) was marred by audio issues.
The 27-year-old singer caused a storm on Twitter when she belted out her emotive ballad, with fans commenting that her singing was less than perfect.
"The piano mics fell on to the piano strings, that's what the guitar sound was. It made it sound out of tune. S**t happens," Adele tweeted after the incident.
During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, due to air on Thursday (18Feb16), Adele further explained the situation and admitted she was left "embarrassed" by the audio mishap.
"I heard it straight away," she said. "And I knew where the mic was and I wanted to turn around and lift it up, but I froze. But I actually felt like it went well. In the room they actually sorted the problem and I'm always a bit pitchy anyways so I wasn't particularly... I am! It's emotion. It's emotion.
"When I'm flat and I'm sharp I'm just emotional but it was fine. I wanted to tell everyone straight away because it seemed to be a lot of confusion about what it was. I was embarrassed. I woke up the next morning to people in England being like, 'We still love you, don't worry' and I was like, 'I didn't ask you if you still loved me, but thanks'. I was so embarrassed."
Adele later tweeted that she was going to have a day off from her diet and treat herself to an In-N-Out Burger following the awards ceremony. However, she added to Ellen that she was overcome with emotion after the microphone troubles at the event.
"I cried pretty much all day yesterday," she continued. "In fairness I would have cried if it went really well as well. If it was a stand out performance I would have cried as well. I always cry."
