Pop of all kinds was showered with love at the 2013 Grammy Awards on Sunday night (February 10). And it wouldn't be the Grammy Awards if 2012's pop princess Adele didn't go home with something.
Adele was the first of the night's televised winners in a "pop" category when she won the Best Pop Solo Performance Grammy for her live rendition of "Set Fire to the Rain" from Live at the Royal Albert Hall. While making her way to the stage, she kissed Rihanna and then declared presenter Jennifer Lopez her "good luck charm."
"Thank you so much. This is amazing, honestly! I just wanted to come and be part of the night 'cause I loved it last year, obviously. Thank you!" she said, referring to all those Grammy Awards she won in 2012 (six to be exact). "I just want to say a massive ... some big love to the other girls. We work so hard ... See you later. Have a wonderful night."
Later on, another female artist went home a winner in a pop category. Kelly Clarkson nabbed a trophy for Best Pop Vocal Album for her powerhouse performance on Stronger. As she made her way to the stage, she showed some love to her fiancé, Brandon Blackstock, and stopped to chat with Katy Perry and John Mayer. "I got stuck to Miranda Lambert. There's a story and a song. For later, after alcohol," she laughed. "I'm just kidding, children. I get nervous speaking in front of people.
"I didn't know I was going to win 'cause I literally, I was so excited to be in a category with Fun. I have been covering you all summer. I'm sorry, I love that song. I think it's so awesome. I love Pink. Everyone — Adele — that I was in a category with. Miguel, I don't know who the hell you are, but we need to sing together. I mean, good god, that was the sexiest damn thing I've ever seen. What? Anyway, thank you so much, friends, family, label, my manager, Narvel [Blackstock, Brandon's father and Kelly's manager], my fiancé, who is sexy tonight. I did not think I was going to win. Thank you!"
Before the show went live and the cameras were rolling, Gotye and Kimbra took home the Grammy for Best Pop Duo / Group Performance for their inescapable 2012 hit, "Somebody That I Used to Know."
