ADELE has revealed that she was told off by her mother for accepting her Grammy Award while chewing gum.
The 'Chasing Pavements' singer - who won Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance at the prestigious US ceremony in February - said she phoned her mother to tell her the great news and got chastised.
Speaking to Glamour magazine, she said: "When the award for Best New Artist was announced, I was so convinced that the Jonas Brothers or Duffy were going to win, I wasn't prepared at all. I'd undone my belt and I had chewing gum in my mouth. I nearly cried during my speech but I thought, 'No, I can't because of the Kate Winslet Golden Globe moment. One British person doing that is enough for one year.'
"When I came off stage and rang my mum to tell her, she was like, 'Yeah, I saw... you had gum in your mouth!' I don't think she was impressed!"
Adele also admitted she thought she'd be denied entry to the ceremony because she didn't think anyone knew who she was.
She said: "The Grammys was the most surreal night ever. I had a front-row seat and was convinced someone was going to come along and ask me to move."
