The Someone Like You hitmaker may have recorded her current album 21 in Malibu, but she cannot bear the thought of leaving her home town of London in order to live there.
The 23-year-old, who recently called off her US tour due to illness, said: 'I am a London girl through and through.
'I felt very uncomfortable in Malibu. I felt at home with my producer Rick Rubin and the studio was incredible, but it's not my kind of area.'
She added to British newspaper The Sun: 'Everyone lives behind a gate as they have so much money they don't leave. It was a very surreal experience.
'I'm from a pretty rough area in London, so working in Malibu was a dream - but then I got brought back down to earth.'
