Adele has offered a visual for "Someone Like You" as simply constructed as the song's vocal-and-piano arrangement: the official music video, which premiered on Thursday night (Sept. 29), finds the British singer wandering the deserted streets of Paris and at times looking wistfully away from the camera.
Like the clip for "Rolling in the Deep," the Jake Nava-directed "Someone Like You" video is shot in black and white, but instead of offering a collection of stark images, the video simply lingers on Adele as she navigates through Paris in the early morning and occasionally sings along to the heartbreaking lyrics. In the final shot of the video, Adele stares into a mirror as a male figure in the background walks in the opposite direction.
Adele's performance of "Someone Like You" at the MTV Video Music Awards last month was just as simple as the video: on a darkened stage, the singer performed the track under a lone spotlight with a piano next to her. The performances helped Adele's "21" ballad shoot to No. 1 on the Hot 100, marking her second chart-topper from her second album.
Adele will bring "21," the best-selling album of 2011 thus far, on the road for a 10-city U.S. trek that begins next Friday (Oct. 7) in Atlantic City, N.J.
