Hip Hop star Akon has gone straight to the top of the UK single charts toppling Tony Christie's seven week reign.
There was double joy for Akon. As well as seeing ‘Lonely' hit the summit of the 40 single countdown, his album ‘Trouble' takes the top spot from Bruce Springsteen with his ‘Devils And Dust'.
Back on the single chart, Eminem enters at four with ‘Mocking Bird' while veterans Weezer score high, going in at nine with ‘Beverly Hills', one ahead of Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz who enter at 10 with 'Get Low/Lovers & Friends'. The Killers just miss the 10, going in at 11 with ‘Smile Like You Mean It', just ahead of Faith Evans at 12 with ‘Again'. Meanwhile, Maximo Park take a bow at 15 with ‘Graffiti' and Chemical Brothers enjoy another top 20 hit at 18 with ‘Believe'.
Dogs, Idlewild and Duke Spirit also enjoy top 40 success.
Akon aside, its veterans who dominate the new entries on the album top 10.
