Alanis Morissette used her moment at Canada's Juno Awards to draw attention to America's ludicrous censorship laws.
In a pre-planned stunt, Morissette exposed herself but was actually wearing a comical body suit complete with fake nipples and pubic hair.
In reference to the differences between American and Canadian society she said Canadians "live in a land where we still think the human body is beautiful and we're not afraid of the female breast."
Playing along with the stunt, the announcer said that "we can't show nipples on national TV...and you can't show your pubic hair either."
Winners for 2004 included Michael Bublé (New Artist of the Year), Buck 65 (Alternative Album of the Year), Choclair (Rap Recording of the Year), Holly Cole (Vocal Jazz Album of the Year), Sarah McLachlan (Songwriter of the Year and Pop Album of the Year), Rush (Music DVD of the Year), Nickeback (Group of the Year and JUNO Fan Choice Award), Nelly Furtado (Single of the Year), (Shania Twain (Country Recording of the Year) and Susan Aglukark (Aboriginal Recording of the Year).
50 Cent was given the Juno Award for International Album of the Year.
