Berry recently insisted that she wouldn't be suitable for the role, stating, 'If I could carry a tune, I'd consider it. Someone should tell Aretha that I can't do her justice.'
But the 68-year-old soul legend, who is recovering from surgery for a mystery illness, told the
Wendy Williams Show that she still believes Berry would be perfect for the part.
'She shouldn't underestimate her own talent... I never expected Halle to sing,' she said in a statement. 'She's an actress, not a singer. Many actors have portrayed vocalists by lip-syncing to the artist's original recordings.'
