Aretha Franklin has successfully completed what she has called a "highly successful" surgery on Thursday at an undisclosed Detroit area hospital. The reason for the surgery remains a mystery.
The Queen of Soul released a statement saying "God is still in control. I had superb doctors and nurses whom were blessed by all the prayers of the city and the country." A prayer vigil had been held in Detroit on Wednesday night for Franklin after it was learned that she would have the operation.
Franklin's cousin, Brenda Corbett, told the Detroit Free Press that "She's doing really really good" but would not say where the operation took place or how long the singer is expected to be hospitalized.
In November, Franklin announced that she was canceling all appearances through May of next year by order of her doctors.
