Aretha Franklin was hospitalised after suffering an allergic reaction to antibiotics, it has emerged.
According to the soul legend's doctor, Aretha suffered a "rather severe" reaction to a course of antibiotics, prompting the decision to admit her to hospital.
She is currently receiving treatment at Detroit's Sinai-Grace hospital, after being taken ill following the completion of a recent tour at the weekend, Dr Claud Young told US TV.
In a statement, Aretha said: "I am resting comfortably and responding very well." It is still unclear how much longer she will remain in hospital.
