Soul queen Aretha Franklin has honored designer Marc Jacobs in New York with a performance of her classic Respect.
Aretha made one of her rare trips out of her hometown of Detroit. It was her first time away from Detroit since her recent illness.
"I need a party after what I've been through," Aretha said in a statement. "I spent most of the summer in bed. But everything is good now, good to go."
Record company mogul Clive Davis accompanied Aretha to the event. Pop star Miley Cyrus and politician New York's Mayor Bloomberg were also at the function. Franklin threatened that she had plans to "twerk" with Miley.
Franklin will perform her first public show since her illness at the MotorCity Casino Hotel's Sound Board in Detroit on December 21.
