The loss of both Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler as judges has put American Idol into a bit of chaos, especially considering that the city-based auditions are just over the horizon. It has also given the media a new round of "who will they pick" to speculate over the replacements.
Mariah Carey has been a popular choice but a much more legendary soul diva has made it clear that she would be interested in one of the spots. Aretha Franklin was asked, via an e-mail, if she would be interested in joining the show and replied "Yes, I am interested as a judge!"
Choosing Franklin would definitely give the panel a different look but it might give any upcoming contestants a bit of trouble. The Queen of Soul's catalog has been a very popular choice on the show but it would be very intimidating (not to mention a pretty bad choice) to perform Franklin's music for the singer herself.
