The 68-year-old soul legend is rumoured to be suffering from pancreatic cancer, but although her family will not confirm the nature of her illness, her cousin has insisted that the star is determined to make a full recovery.
Brenda Corbett told the Detroit Free Press, 'Aretha is doing better than doctors expected. She has a long life in front of her and will be back in concert, on stage, late spring or early summer.'
Corbett added that it is the iconic singer's wish that details of her actual illness to be kept under wraps because she is still 'healing'.
'It's her private business, and she's just not ready to talk about it. Give her time to heal. When people ask for their privacy, respect them for that,' she said.
Franklin's sister-in-law, Earline Franklin, added, 'Aretha is doing absolutely wonderful. All the prayers and well wishes have supported her, and she's doing well.'
