If A$AP Rocky had things his way, his debut LP would've come out this week, a year from the day he released his very first mixtape, Live.Love.A$AP. But navigating through the major-label system takes a bit more planning, so fans will have to wait a little while longer for the Long.Live.A$AP LP.
"I want to say it's looking like top of the year, first quarter because it makes no sense to put out a album in December," Rocky told the Bay Area's WILD 94.9 radio host Nessa about his debut.
The "Peso" MC promises that the music is ready, but he still has to cross his Ts and dot his Is. "The issue with my album is I got things on it that's so out of this world that it's taking so long to get mastered. That's the issue, and I refuse to take anything off," he said. "It's complete. Everything is being mastered and cleared right now."
Better safe than sorry, as so many rappers have learned an unapproved sample leading to big legal trouble down the road. "It's just so hard to get things cleared, because you got to find people to clear samples," he said. "It takes a long time and that's why it keeps getting pushed back from Halloween [from] September 11th."
Rocky's current single "F---in' Problem features Drake, 2 Chainz and Kendrick Lamar. If it is any indication of what fans can expect from Long.Live.A$AP, the LP should be well worth the wait. "I really feel good about this. I really feel deeply good about this because I put my all into it, and it's a different aspect of me," he told back in September while in L.A. prepping for the 2012 VMAs. "It's just showing my capabilities and how much of an artist I really am — not just a rapper."
