A$AP Rocky is wild for the night, forget being polite: On Tuesday, he took to the airwaves to vent about his placement on MTV's "Hottest MCs in the Game VIII" list.
Just hours after Kanye West lent out his "Hottest" frustrations on Hot 97 in New York, Power 106 in Los Angeles released a YouTube clip of Rocky ranting about his #8 placement. Dat PMF made his Hottest MCs debut on Monday, but the Harlem spitter felt he should be #1.
"It's frustrating when I'm #8. Don't put me at all," he said. "I need to be #1, I'ma come clean."
Rocky pointed out that he directs all of his own videos and influenced the game with his keen fashion sense. "The reason why everyone is wearing gold again is because of your boy. Everybody's wearing diamonds," he argued. "I'm the one that who made the John Lennon shades with the glasses — everybody wearing it now, you see what's going on now. C'mon, who brought gold teeth back? Let's be honest."
The "Peso" spitter also added his diverse range of influences to his list. " I'm the first artist who grew enough balls to say, 'I listen to Geto Boys, Three 6 Mafia, Bone Thugs N Harmony, N.W.A. and Wu-Tang at the same damn time, what?!' And I'm influenced by all of them," he continued to rant.
During the "Hottest MCs" debate, MTV's Hip-Hop Brain Trust credited Rocky with landing a #1 album, even a month after his debut Long.Live.A$AP was leaked onto the Internet and just weeks after his father passed away. There were some detractors at the roundtable, however, who felt that even though Rocky was making strides musically, his lyrics left a little something to be desired, especially on the album's collaborative cuts "F---in' Problems" and "1 Train." A$AP wants more credit for his perseverance and success. "I didn't get a chance to mourn about my pops because I wanted to deliver an album even after motherf---ers leaked my sh--, " he exclaimed. "Fine, but thank you MTV, thank you."
