Babyshambles are a last-minute addition to the line-up of 'Help: A Day In The Life'.
The band went into a London studio and worked on the new song 'Bollywood To Battersea'. The track has been delivered to the War Child offices and is set for inclusion on the compilation, which is released via warchildmusic.com today.
The band got involved after bandmember Patrick Walden told NME that the group were interested. Speaking at the time he said: “Even if it meant taking a day out from the studio I'd love to do it, I'd give it up. It's a great thing to do and it's a great way of helping people, so I'd like to hear more. If someone asked you do something like that and you said ‘no I'm busy recording my debut' you'd sound like a wanker.â€
Yesterday groups including Radiohead, Gorillaz, Razorlight, The Zutons, Manic Street Preachers, Bloc Party, and Elbow went into studios to record new songs.
The event marks the ten-year anniversary of the first 'Help' album, which featured Blur, Oasis, Radiohead and Suede and raised more than £1.25m for children caught up in the Bosnian war.
The bands will be in studios across the world with Gorillaz laying down their track in Hong Kong, Kaiser Chiefs setting to work in Berlin and Manic Street Preachers recording in Wales.
The album will also feature various cover versions with Kaiser Chiefs taking on Marvin Gaye's 'I Heard It Through The Grapevine', Keane are doing a version of Elton John's 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road' and Mercury Music Prize-winning Antony & The Johnsons are recording John Lennon's 'Happy Xmas (War Is Over)' with Boy George.
'Help: A Day In The Life' will be released on CD through Independiente on September 26.
All of the money raised by the new record will be used by War Child to provide both material and psychological support and rehabilitation to children on the edge of conflict and post-conflict societies.
