Barbra Streisand will return to the directors chair for the story of Catherine the Great.
Streisand, 73, is considered one of the great female directors yet she has only helmed three films, Yentl (1983), The Prince of Tides (1991) and The Mirror Has Two Faces (1996). This will be her first film in twenty years.
Catherine the Great is being produced by Gil Netter (Marley & Me, The Blind Side, Life of Pi) and written by first timer Kristina Lauren Anderson.
This may, actually, not be Streisand's next directing project. She has previously said she would direct an episode of her husband, James Brolin's, new series Life in Pieces if it was picked up for a full season by CBS. The series has received that commitment but there has been no further word on the directing project.
She has also frequently been said to be interested in directing a new version of the classic Broadway musical Gypsy.
