Barbra Streisand has agreed to direct an episode of her husband, James Brolin's, new CBS series Life in Pieces.
The only stipulation is that CBS pickup the show for the "back nine", industry lingo for ordering the last nine episodes of a season of a show. Many programs, especially in their first year, are picked up on a limited basis with their ratings success determining if they will be back for episodes 14 through 22.
If all goes well, this will be Streisand's first directing gig since The Mirror Has Two Faces in 1996. She had previously directed Yentl (1983) and The Prince of Tides (1991). There has been rumblings of a new movie project, tentatively set for a 2017 release, on the love affair between Margaret Bourke-White and Erskine Caldwell.
Live in Pieces, set to premier this coming Monday, stars Brolin, two-time Oscar winner Diane Wiest, Colin Hanks, Betsy Brandt and Zoe Lister Jones.
