Beanie Sigel Rushes This Time Before Jail Time

Beanie Sigel was in a race against the clock when he was recording his upcoming album, but a rushed Beans is still pretty damn good, right?

On August 28, the Broad Street Bully will be releasing his fifth official solo album This Time. Two weeks later, he is scheduled to turn himself in for a two-year prison bid for failure to file taxes. All of Sig's mounting legal drama seriously cut into his studio time.

"Actually, I was running out of time. I was glad that I had enough material recorded to even put the album together," Beans said when he appeared on "RapFix Live" on Wednesday. "I was probably only like 80 percent of really getting into my zone on this project, but at 50 percent, my 50 percent is better than people's 100 percent."

The former Roc-A-Fella MC did get some help for this album. Game, State Property and global pop star Akon appear on This Time. "People rock with Sigel man. People love me," he said after "RapFix" host Sway asked him how he was able to secure his features.

On "The Reunion" Beans rounds up his State Property group mates Omillio Sparks, Peedi Crakk, Young Chris and Freeway. Though they have faced a number of ups, downs and internal disputes, the crew has been on the road to mounting a comeback — trying to restore the status they once held in rap when they were a part of Jay-Z's Roc movement in the early 2000s.

"As a unit, I don't think there's a unit out there as talented as State Property in so many areas. Not only just lyrically but our stage presence, our performance, our energy that we give out, the songs that we make," Beans said. "We carried the flagship for Roc-A-Fella for years, we was Roc-A-Fella."
